COMMUNITY CENTER - Khabarovsk, Russia, 1999
This competition entry for an OSB Building, is specifically sited in The Russian Far East to be a beacon and a resource for sustainable foresting practices in a much needed area of the industry. At the center people can begin to feel the significance of foresting practices in their own community, learn about sustainable methods and means, and thus the long term benefit for their families for future generations. The facility is comprised of a large multipurpose Space, Large Kitchen, a library as well as a Bath and Sauna. Engineered wood can be a sustainable industry by using both FSC timbers as well as recycling a variety of wood products. The Architecture can and should reflect these ideals.
