PLUTONIUM MAUSOLEUM - Jack Ass Flats, NV, 2001
Atomic Magazine sponsored a repository / museum for military grade spent plutonium. Sited in the desert, a long gradually sloping ramp brings visitors to a refreshing water fall to help purify the soul. You begin to walk under the endless Byzantine arches formed by the plutonium tubes poised like missiles for launch., The visitor experiences the staggering amount as well as the somber feeling of being on the brink of war. Each gallery is separated by a stained glass wall with red white and blue glass which reflect off of the steel giving one an ironic sense of patriotism. Rather than bury the waste in the ground to be forgotten, society should be constantly reminded of our own excess and
foolishness.
